THE LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPIONS IN THE HISTORY OF NBA – THE TORONTO RAPTORS WILL KICK OFF THE DEFENCE OF THEIR TITLE ON MONDAY AUGUST 17TH 2020

The Toronto Raptors – the current and the longest reigning champions in the history of NBA having held the title for more than 400 days, will kick off the defence of their highly esteemed title on Monday, August 17th, 2020, against the 7th seeded Brooklyn Nets in the Eastern Conference. The Toronto Raptors we will recall won the championship for the first time in 2019, though, the team was established on November 4, 1993, “when the NBA as part of its expansion into Canada, awarded its 28th franchise to a group headed by Toronto businessman – John Bitove. Of course, it was a dream come true on June 14th, 2019, when Kawhi Leonard and Kyle Lowry led the team to their first NBA championship title by defeating Steve Curry’s Golden States 114 – 110 in game six. Leonard would emerge as the finals MVP.

But after the euphoria of the championship had died down and the fanfare subsided, the team was faced with the dilemma and the reality of Kawhi Leonard’s impending exit. It was a situation that Toronto Raptors fans would have wished will pan out in their favour, but the contrary was the case as Kawhi Leonard decided to leave for LA Clippers in order to join forces with Paul George for another wonderful season. Because of Kawhi’s departure, it appeared the team was in for a very difficult season, but virtually everybody was proven wrong with the sterling performances of the players under the leadership of Kyle Lowry, that saw the team clinched the second spot in the Eastern conference by winning 53 games. In fact, the Toronto Raptors ended the regular season as the number 3 team in the whole of NBA. This is the more reason everybody is poised to witness the wonders and determinations of the players like Kyle Lowry, Serge Ibaka, OG Anunoby, Marc Gasol, Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet, Norman Powell and a strong bench led by Chris Boucher, during the play-off that is set to commence on Monday, 17th of August, 2020.

Having said the above and given the readiness of the team, do you believe the Toronto Raptors under the tutelage of Nick Nurse could go on to surprise everybody again this season by winning their second NBA championship title?
