LIONEL MESSI WINS GOLDEN BOOT FOR THE 7TH TIME IN LA LIGA

The indefatigable soccer genius known as Lionel Messi broke another record in the final day of La Liga season (19/07/2020), when Barcelona defeated Alaves by 5 – 0 and Messi scored two goals to take his season total to 25 goals to emerge as the highest goal scorer in La Liga in 2020, while also making it the consecutive fourth season he would excel as the highest goal poacher in the league. The 25 goals he scored for the season will definitely earn him the La Liga golden boot for the 7th time. He also created 21 assists for the season to surpass the previous record of 20 assists held by former Barcelona great – Xavi.

Messi’s two goals against Alaves were instrumental to him obscuring the six times La Liga golden boot record he once jointly held with Telmo Zarra formerly of Athletic Bilbao (1940 – 1955). Though, Messi clinched his 7th golden boot, but it has been noted that this “is the first time the winner of the Pichichi Trophy has managed fewer than 30 goals since Mallorca’s Daniel Guiza 12 years ago – 2008”. Congratulations to the soccer maestro known as Lionel Messi for shattering another goal scoring record. But based on the fact that Barcelona failed to win the La Liga this season and there are many players in different leagues across Europe who have scored more than 25 league goals, do you still believe Messi would be nominated for Ballon D’or award this season?
