Bayern Munich defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1 – 0 on Sunday, 23rd of August, 2020, in Lisbon to win the UEFA Champions league for the sixth time since 2013. It was a match that many soccer pundits will agree did not particularly live up to the required expectation, though, PSG appeared to look more dangerous in the first half by creating some scoring chances that could not be converted due partly to the brilliant goalkeeping by Manuel Neuer. It was also a night that saw Robert Lewandowski hit the post, while Neymar and Kylian Mbappe’s best was not good enough as none of them could help their team take the needed lead. But the match would be decided in the 59th minute when Kingsley Coman responded to Joshua Kimmich’s cross with the sole aim of beating Keylor Navas as he scored a header against his former club-PSG.
This victory by Bayern Munich is unique because it completes their treble for the year, while it is also historic in the sense that during this Champions League campaign, they were the only club that won every match, which makes them the first club in the Championship history to do so. Regarding PSG on the other hand, it was not totally a bad outcome, though, Neymar could not realise his ambition of winning Champions League title for PSG and justify the hefty transfer fee spent to bring him over, but himself and the team made history by taking PSG to the Champions League final for the very first time in the history of their club. Congratulations to Bayern Munich for the extraordinary year they’ve had. Having said that, do you believe this Bayern Munich team will still be as complete and unbeatable as this next season?
