ARSENAL FC – THE KING OF FA CUP

When it comes to winning or lifting FA Cup which is the world’s oldest football cup competition, it is crystal clear that Arsenal FC’s record is incomparable. By defeating Chelsea with the goal margin of 2 -1 on Saturday, August 1st, 2020, Arsenal has now won the FA Cup for the staggering 14 times, an enviable record that is currently unparalleled. In fact, the only club that came close to Arsenal is Manchester United with 12 times winning record. It is also informative to note that Coach Arsene Wenger won the FA Cup 7 times when he was at the helm of affairs at Arsenal.

In order to showcase Arsenal FC’s FA Cup achievements, let’s delve a bit into FA Cup history in England as an educational or informative piece for the sporting minds. Therefore, the following statistics will serve to refresh our memories or drive our point home that Arsenal FC is indeed the specialist of FA Cup. To begin with in 1930, it was Arsenal 2 – 0 Huddersfield, 1936 – Arsenal 1- 0 Sheffield United, 1950 – Arsenal 2 – 0 Liverpool, 1971 – Arsenal 2- 1 Liverpool, 1979 – Arsenal 3 – 2 Manchester United, 1993 – Arsenal 2 – 1 Sheffield Wednesday ( a replay), 1998 – Arsenal 2 – 0 Newcastle, 2002 – Arsenal 2 – 0 Chelsea, 2003 – Arsenal 1- 0 Southampton, 2005 – Arsenal 0 – 0 Manchester United (Arsenal won 5 – 4 on penalties), 2014 – Arsenal 3 – 2 Hull City, 2015 – Arsenal 4 – 0 Aston Villa, 2017 – Arsenal 2 – 1 Chelsea, 2020 – Arsenal 2 – 1 Chelsea.

Congratulations to Arsenal for defeating Chelsea 2 -1 and lifting the FA Cup courtesy two delightful goals from their captain Pierre – Emerick Aubameyang, though, this is their first major trophy after the exit of Arsene Wenger in 2017 – 2018 season having managed Arsenal for 22 seasons.  Also, this particular FA Cup has qualified Arsenal for the Europa League group stages next season. But despite this achievement, don’t you think Mikel Arteta should endeavour within his capacity and utilizing the resources made available to him to build a solid team that will begin to win the league again like the Arsenal FC we used to know?
