ALPHONSO DAVIES SPECIAL – FROM A REFUGEE AFRICAN IMMIGRANT BOY TO A SOCCER SUPERSTAR

Alphonso Davies is a 19 – year – old Canadian who was born in a refugee camp in Ghana to Liberian parents on November 2nd, 2000. The talented Davies emigrated to Canada with his parents at the age of five to settle down in Edmonton. As a young star, Davies played for Edmonton Internationals, Edmonton Strikers, Whitecaps FC Residency and Whitecaps FC 2 where he made his debut at the age of 15 years, 5 months in April 2016. On July 15, 2016, he would sign his senior or first team contract with Vancouver Whitecaps that will take him to 2018 with the clause of 2019 and 2020 seasons. The talented Davies played his first MLS game on July 16, 2016, and thus became the second youngest player to do so after Freddy Adu. As a result of his numerous mesmerizing and brilliant performances during MLS games, he won Vancouver Whitecaps FC Player of the Year award on October 24, 2018. The 5ft 11 inches tall left-back/winger soccer genius also plays for Canadian national team where he has been displaying his great soccer skills and helping the team in various competitions.

Because of Alphonso Davies’s talent, skills and speed, Bayern Munich decided to sign him on July 25, 2018, for four seasons with the total transfer fee of US$22 million ($29.25 million Canadian) which was the Canadian record. He would stay with the Vancouver Whitecaps to complete the MLS season before moving to Bayern Munich in January 2019. Upon joining Bayern Munich, he quickly blended with the team and continued playing as the left-back/winger with unparalleled blistering speed and skills which forced Thomas Muller to nickname him “Roadrunner”. Currently, Alphonso Davies is said to be the “fastest Bundesliga player in record history” at 36.51 KM/H.

The 2019/2020 season for Alphonso Davies with Bayern Munich is unique and historic because he was able to help his team clinch a record eight consecutive Bundesliga title when they defeated Werder Bremen 1 – 0 on June 16, 2020. They also won DFB Cup on Saturday, July 4, 2020, while they completed the treble by defeating Paris-Saint Germain 1 – 0 in the Champions League final on 23rd of August, 2020, for their sixth title. Congratulations to Alphonso Davies for being the very first Canadian footballer in history to win the UEFA Champions League. Having said that, don’t you agree with me that if Davies avoids the mistakes of Freddy Adu, is focussed, disciplined and trains hard like Ronaldo, imbibes the humility of Messi, he is capable of becoming one of the greatest footballers or soccer players in the world in the near future?
